Fennecs, swifts, kits, and gray foxes don't emit an unpleasant body odor, but may smell like a skunk, while Arctics and Reds have a musky, sweaty skunk-like urine.

Spaying or neutering slightly improves fennec fox urine quality, but it often has a stronger odor compared to smaller species.

The claim that female fennecs are less affectionate, feisty, and talkative than neutered males is a matter of personal choice. Each fox has its unique personality, and females are especially friendlier during pregnancy. It is assumed that neutered males won't spray.  Female foxes tend to be more accepted by male foxes, while personality and socialization play a larger role in all other foxes.

Foxes appreciate larger animals but should not come into close contact with their natural prey species like hamsters, frogs, gerbils, or rodents. Foxes may exhaust household pets due to their energy, and other animals may be exhausted sooner. Ensure no other animals are close to them at home.

A fox should never be left unattended with pets, as a cat twice its size was killed by a small fennec.

Foxes typically don't shed much, but some may blow their coats for a short time due to environmental changes. Outdoor enclosures typically undergo two coat changes a year, with Arctic foxes having two unique changes per year. Most other foxes don't shed excessively but create dander, unlike Siberian huskys, which blow their entire coat twice a year.
